Invitation to the course (3 min)
You’re Not Lost — You’ve Just Never Had the Words
You’ve lived a life full of threads.
You’ve gathered experience, wisdom, and care. You’ve wandered, contributed, built things, let things go.
You’ve felt deeply. Thought widely. Asked better questions than most.
But when it comes time to explain what it all means — or what you actually do — you freeze.
Maybe you’ve done too many things to sum up. Maybe you’re tired of being “hard to define.”
This is for the ones who are done trying to pick one thread — and are ready to trace the weave.
Because ‘What Do You Do?’ Doesn’t Begin to Cover It
This isn’t a branding course.
It’s not personal development either.
It’s sociology you can live in — at the intersection of self, society, and story.
Across five chapters, you’ll explore where your meaning lives — in your contradictions, your cares, your thresholds, your gifts.
You’ll be part of a space that mixes philosophy, psychology, spirituality, politics, and mischief — because they all shape how we live.
You’ll trace the pattern of your red thread:
- What keeps pulling at you?
- What keeps returning?
- What makes you come alive?
You’ll name your practices, reclaim your care, and begin to speak — not from a script, but from the source.
What is it, really, that I do in the world?
You don’t need a final answer. You just need to start speaking from the spool.
The next live cohort (C4) will run later in 2025 – dates TBA.
When you pre-register now, you’ll be automatically assigned to the next available group.
Each live session includes:
• Guided activities to explore your red thread
• Small-group conversations and shared reflection
• Space to hear yourself, be witnessed, and feel connected
It’s where the ideas come alive — and so do you.
Already taking the course at your own pace?
You can upgrade to the live cohort anytime — we’ll simply charge the difference.
There’s no need to wait — the red thread is already tugging.
See the full schedule (once announced) on the Grokkist Academy Live Calendar.

What others are saying

"This is bone."
Emily M
I’m moved by how deep this goes — like, this is really it.
This is bone. This is skeletal structure.
It feels like the scaffolding for how I want to move through life.
And I’m excited — now that I see it, I can build from here. I can build from the truth.
"Protecting my red thread has made all the difference."

Danu’s course gave me nuggets of wisdom I still carry every day. It helped me make sense of my story and step into a new chapter with clarity and confidence. At 50, I’m in grad school to become a licensed art therapist—something I owe, in part, to Danu’s guidance as a threshold guardian.
Even now, teaching art to teens in recovery and living at my growth edge, I keep returning to what I learned. Protecting my red thread has been my main goal—and it’s made all the difference.
"My heart is full to overflowing."

I’m not someone who looks back much, but this course has had me unforgetting, rediscovering what’s already within me. I've been examining and deconstructing old patterns, making way for the new.
I'd almost guarantee you'll learn something new about yourself and even if you don't you'll have hours of quality time with really interesting people. My heart is full to overflowing.
"A great experience. Things don’t always go perfectly and that’s very much part of it."
Peter G
Thank you, Danu, for putting this monster together and making it such a great experience. Being part of the Red Thread cohort was incredible — we became a really tight group, and it was a joy to share the ride.
Being a grokkist feels like spinning plates — some steady, some wobbly, and always the urge to add more. Things don’t always go perfectly and that’s very much part of the process.
"The course that keeps on giving."
Andrea R
I got so much out of the Red Thread course, and I’m already looking forward to doing it again. It’s really the course that keeps on giving.
Danu, you’ve created something wonderful here — you should be so proud of yourself!
If you’re even considering taking the Red Thread course, don’t hesitate. Sign up — you won’t regret it. I’ve learned so much about myself, and the support and care I received still resonate with me every day. 🕊️♥️🙏
What changes after you take this course
You’ll stop dreading “so what do you do?” — not because you’ve memorised a pitch, but because you’ve changed your relationship to the question.
You’ll begin to see your contradictions not as a problem to solve, but as the source of your pattern — and your power.
You’ll speak about what you do in a way that feels alive.
Not rehearsed. Not reduced. Just real.
You’ll recognise the living tradition you’re already part of, even if no one ever told you its name.
You’ll stop trying to be legible to everyone, and start speaking in a way that calls the right people closer.
And you’ll find that your red thread isn’t a brand or a plan — it’s a wellspring.
Once you learn how to draw from it, you’ll always know how to come back.
How It Works
The course is built around five chapters, each exploring a different dimension of your story:
- who you are
- what you carry
- what you care about
- how you show up, and
- what connects it all.
Each chapter includes a video talk full of chewy ideas and sideways glances, plus gentle prompts and creative experiments to help you explore your own Red Thread.
You’ll move through concepts like commodification of the self, thresholds and guardians, repression and recognition, practical wisdom, magic circles, and more — not as theory, but as lenses for looking at your own lived experience.
Throughout, you’ll be working on your Threadwork project — a personal story that weaves together the questions, gifts, and contradictions that make you you.
Not a polished performance. A story you can live into. One that reflects your depth and feels good to say out loud.
Take it at your own pace, or join a live cohort to explore it in community.
Meet Your Guide

Hi, I’m Danu — founder of Grokkist, recovering generalist, and serial misfit.
I’ve dropped out of school (twice), started a business and lost everything, worked in universities, government, tech, research, retail, policy, media — and never quite fit into any of it.
For most of my life, I carried the weight of not knowing how to explain what I do — not just to others, but to myself.
I could sense there was a deeper coherence to all my seemingly unrelated experiences, but I couldn’t name it.
I just knew that when I followed my curiosity and care, good things happened.
Eventually, I stopped trying to fit into boxes and started building something around the people and possibilities I cared about most.
That became Grokkist — a community for people who resist categories, who still have their curiosity intact, and who want to create something better than what we’ve been handed.
Find Your Red Thread is the course I wish I’d had years ago — a place to slow down, make meaning, and find your footing.
I’d be honoured to explore it with you.
What if the live workshops don't suit my timezone?
We recognise the available times may not suit everyone and are exploring additional options for future cohorts – get in touch at [email protected] with your timezone request and we will do our best to accommodate you.
For now, you're still welcome to join even if you know you can't make it – you will still have access to the recording and the community, and your enrolment automatically rolls over into the next cohort.
Can you run this course online or in-person for my school / organisation / community group?
We are happy to discuss options with you! Get in touch at [email protected] and let's talk.
